Man… what a night! I don’t know what the hell we were thinking. Our first week as wizards (or Mages I suppose it the preferred term) and we go and take a job from some club owning vampire we’ve never met, to go and shake down some other vampires that work for a fanatical vampire cult leader. And from the sounds of it, Joe meant for us to take them out, even if he didn’t put it that way. What are we doing…?

Westin seems like alright people (well, I suppose he’s not really people anymore) unless you get on his bad side, then look out! Other than that, I think we need to concentrate on finding this new base of operations and figuring out just what our place is here in the world now that we’ve Awakened. Not to mention find out what these phones are all about. I assume they’re meant as a way to recruit and track us, because there was no coincidence that everyone I’ve met that was involved in this has had one… Hey, speaking of which, didn’t that cop guy have one?

Good thing there was a break in and attack at the office, or they would probably wonder what had happened to me, since I haven’t contacted work in like a week. I better take care of that too.

Oh crap… we left that guy Robert alive, didn’t we?

I can’t decide whether this night has been incredible, or awful. It’s not even half-over, and I’ve already felt the memory of the exhilaration that pulled me into anthropology in the first place, and the withering pangs of guilt that have so tormented me over the past 5 years. Was I wrong to kill them? To lie, and back stab, and leave them comatose for the sun to find and finish? I was under orders, true, and they’d have done worse for me, I have no doubt. Fear, and anger, and service to the goals of others…is that all I really have left?

I hope not.

This sarcophagus, though, is a mystery that reminds me of my mortal years – the sights and sounds of the far places of the world, the lure of the unknown, the simple thrill of living through it all. I thought that feeling was lost to me. Whether the events of recent days – the mages, the coin, the sarcophagus, and my handling of Rohet’s minions – will confirm my new hope, or bury it, I’m not yet sure.

Right now, I guess there’s nothing to do but gather my tools in the Gallery, and look for answers in the past.
